Temple Hall Farm Regional Park

Temple Hall also boasts the AV Symington Visitor Center, an LEED Gold Certified building. The center includes a multi-purpose room that can be used for meetings and gatherings of various types, including birthday parties, exhibits highlighting agriculture in Loudoun County (past and present), public restrooms and office facilities. The adjacent exhibit barn features opportunities for children and adults to get “up close” to a variety of farm animals and learn about their care and feeding. It also features hands-on exhibits related to farming and agriculture. 

Explore the beautiful terrain of Temple Hall Farm on horseback. Trails are built for riders and horse drawn vehicles and include natural jumps and water crossings along six miles of trails through woods and fields on Temple Hall Farm.  Easy access trailer parking natural log jumps and water crossings.

The park is open from April through September for free visits; the park is closed on Mondays. Temple Hall Farm Regional Park is an excellent place to bring the whole family. There are a wide variety of unique farm animals and beautiful views in every direction. Follow the stone covered paths around the barnyards and pastures and learn about each breed, or come on a weekend and find the farm interpreter for a free tour at 1:00pm every Saturday and Sunday

Temple Hall Farm has a short but scenic nature trail that gives visitors a great view of the surrounding area and the farm itself. Follow the nature trail over the creek and through the woods to learn about the area's native plants and wildlife.

The twenty-two enslaved workers at Temple Hall probably performed functions like those at other farms in Loudoun. The farm raised a variety of crops including corn, wheat and potatoes and the adult male (and at times female) enslaved worked in the fields planting, weeding and harvesting. Mason also raised livestock including beef cattle, milk cows, hogs and sheep so the male enslaved tended to these animals as well as the horses kept for riding and plowing.

When Temple Hall Farm was established in 1812, the house and farm buildings of the time were likely built with Black enslaved workers. Enslaved workers were held in bondage there for the next 50 years to provide free labor for the property owners.

In July 1824, the Marquis de Lafayette returned to the United States for an extensive tour of the country he fought with against Great Britain during the American Revolution. He visited all 24 states, and near the end of that tour came to Loudoun County. One of the homes he visited was Temple Hall.

The farm is home to a large covered picnic shelter with a stone floor, large grill, electricity, fire pits, and nearby indoor restrooms. Birthday Party Packages are also available.

Temple Hall Farm Regional Park has a large playground suitable for kids of all ages. Located near the main entrance and across from the Symington building, the playground features multiple slides and levels, a rock climbing board, multiple levels, stair cases and a swing set, over a sandy area. The play areas are open year round and conveniently near restrooms.

NOVA Parks is pleased to offer a nature interpretation program designed to connect the citizens of northern Virginia with the natural world in our parks. Through guided nature walks, hikes, canoe and kayak tours, night explorations, stream and pond studies, and live animal programs, participants gain the opportunity to discover our native flora and fauna in a safe and fun environment. Programs are catered to kids, adults, and anyone interested in the natural world.

Temple Hall Farm offers customized programs for both boy and girl scouts. The cost is $5 per scout with a minimum of 10 people or $50 for the 1-1.5 hour long program. Please contact the park at templehallfarm@nvrpa.org to schedule your program.
