A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 27, at 2 p.m. for a Korean Bell Garden at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna. June marks the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War.
In addition to a traditional Korean pavilion with a large handcrafted cast-iron bell weighing more than 10 tons, the garden will include a trail, terraced stones and two ponds with a connecting water channel.
Speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony include:
- Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova.
- Hunter Mill District Supervisor Catherine Hudgins.
- Consul General from the Embassy of the Korean Republic Yongchun Cho.
- Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority Chairman Su Webb.
American and South Korean veterans also will be in attendance. The bell garden is sponsored by the Korean American Cultural Committee and the Korean government.
The Board of Supervisors designated June 25 as Korean War Remembrance Day in Fairfax County. The Korean War brought together the forces of 16 nations and featured the first use of United Nations troops and fully integrated U.S. Armed Forces.
The bell garden is sponsored by the Korean American Cultural Committee and the Korean government.
