Fairfax, VA (May 24, 2010) – AlgonkianRegional Parkis now home to the new Volcano Island Waterpark! Previously Downpour Waterpark, Volcano Island is the new and improved Polynesian themed waterpark in Sterling, open for the 2010 summer season.

“From the TV series Lost, to Gilligan's Island, there is something about Polynesian Island that captures the imagination. With a giant volcano on the building and great island themeing all around, we think people will love the new Volcano Island Waterpark. We will even have a beach area for kids to play in the sand," remarked Paul Gilbert, NVRPA Executive Director.

VolcanoIslandtakes visitors to the tropics with its Polynesian theme, complete with tiki thatching, bamboo, painted murals, palm trees, Polynesian critters and smoking volcano atop the main building. Visitors will enjoy daring waterslides, a new sand play area, a spacious pool, and a tropical themed dumping bucket. A new, themed building entrance, new shelter and a new NEOS play system add to the summer time family fun!

VolcanoIsland is the third NVRPA Waterpark to be re-themed and renovated following the success of Pirate’s Cove Waterpark at Pohick Bay Regional Park in 2008 and Atlantis Waterpark at Bull Run Regional Park in 2009.
