Fairfax, VA (May 14, 2010) – The Arlington Career Center, Potomac Overlook Regional Park, and Arlington Central Library are teaming up to celebrate the Career Center’s newly completed “Little Green House” and to discuss its role in the “green economy.” The presentation will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, at Arlington Central Library.
Students from the CareerCenter will demonstrate features of the green home and discuss how it was constructed. Martin Ogle, Chief Naturalist for the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, will discuss how the demo home and other efforts are a part of a new “ecological view of economics.” Participants also will be able to tour the interior of the demonstration green home, which will be on display at the library from April 16 – May 23.
The ArlingtonCareerCenter provides career and technical education classes to high school students from across the county. The student-built “Little Green House” project was supported by Arlington Public Schools in partnership with community groups and corporations interested in educating the public on sustainable building practices.
PotomacOverlookRegionalPark, a property of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, has provided energy education for Northern Virginia citizens for over 15 years and has promoted “green practices” and “green economics” in a variety of ways ranging from energy use to organic gardening and local resource use.
