The Story of the Wood; Seeing Trees and the Forest at Potomac Overlook Regional Park
Arlington, VA (March 9, 2010) – Learn all about wood and the woods at “The Story of the Wood; Seeing the Trees and the Forest!” a free public program on Sunday, April 11 at 2 p.m. at PotomacOverlookRegionalPark. Follow the progress of wood from tree to furniture and bowls. See a sawmill in action and learn about urban forestry, tree planting, wood lore and other wood uses.Get insights into how our forests and the wood that comes from them, tie into global issues like energy and climate change.Learn how to identify and care for trees and view exhibits from local carpenters and crafts people in this hands-on program suitable for adults and children age 10 and older.
PotomacOverlookRegionalPark has been active in local forestry issues, planting over 350 trees over the past 5 years, productively using hazard trees that fall or have to be felled, and preventing local forests from succumbing to non-native vines and other vegetation.The lessons we have learned, and the creative solutions we have found, form the foundation for this program.
