Korean Bell Garden Grand Opening
05/14/2011 11:00 AM to 05/14/2011
Join us on May 14, 2011 for a special event open to the public to celebrate the installation of the bell at the Korean Bell Garden in Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, Virginia.
The event will start at 11 A.M. and will include a dedication ceremony in addition to Korean food, dancing and other demonstrations of Korean culture.
The bell was funded by a generous donation from the government of Gyeonggi Province in South Korea. It is called the Bell of Peace and Harmony and was cast by one of the best bell makers in Korea in a way that has been used for centuries. Cast into the bell are many images of nature: birds, plants and animals.
The bell will be mounted inside the traditional Korean pavilion that was constructed on site by master craftsmen last summer.
There are two large Korean bells on the west coast, but this will be the first Korean Bell Garden in a public place in the western hemisphere.
